A Group of Adventurers Embark

The group consisted of David Moffatt, a seasoned outdoorsman and the trip leader; his wife, Lorraine; their friend Brian Kynoch; and Kynoch's girlfriend, Dianne. They were all experienced canoeists and had carefully planned their route, which was to take them down the 140-kilometer Moffat River to the Clearwater River. However, fate had a cruel twist in store for them.

Disaster Strikes

Just a few days into their trip, as they were navigating a particularly treacherous stretch of rapids, their canoe capsized. The river's icy waters engulfed them, and they were immediately separated. David, an expert swimmer, managed to reach the shore. However, Lorraine, Brian, and Dianne were not so fortunate.

A Lonely Journey

David's solo journey was a grueling ordeal. He had lost his food, supplies, and most importantly, his companions. He relied on his survival skills to find sustenance and shelter, all the while haunted by the memory of his lost friends.

Seven days after the canoe capsized, David reached the safety of a trapper's cabin. He was emaciated and traumatized, but he had survived. The tragic news of his friends' deaths sent shockwaves across the country.
