About the Author
Juan Felipe Herrera is the son of migrant farmworkers. He was born in Fowler, California, and grew up in the San Joaquin Valley. Herrera began writing poetry as a child, and he has published over 30 books of poetry, including _Half of the World in Light_, which won the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2008. In 2015, Herrera was named the U.S. Poet Laureate.
