Karim Khan Zand was one of the most important figures in Iranian history. He was the founder of the Zand dynasty, which ruled Iran from 1750 to 1794. During his reign, Karim Khan Zand expanded the boundaries of the Iranian empire, promoted trade and commerce, and encouraged the arts and sciences.

Early Life and Education

Rise to Power

Karim Khan Zand began his career as a military commander in the army of Nader Shah, the founder of the Afsharid dynasty. After Nader Shah's death in 1747, Iran descended into chaos. Karim Khan Zand took advantage of this situation to seize power in the province of Fars. He then gradually expanded his control over the rest of Iran.

Reign
