About the Author
Robert Haldeman was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1926. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1949. After working as a public relations executive, Haldeman entered politics in 1964 when he joined the staff of Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. In 1968, he became campaign manager for Richard Nixon's successful presidential campaign.
After Nixon was elected, Haldeman was appointed White House Chief of Staff. He served in that role until 1973, when he was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in the Watergate scandal. Haldeman served 18 months in prison and was disbarred from practicing law in California.
After his release from prison, Haldeman wrote several books, including My Extraordinary Journey With Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, and Ford. He also worked as a consultant and lecturer.
Haldeman died in 1993 at the age of 67.
