The Rise of a Legend

In the tumultuous era of the 12th century, a young Kurdish warrior named Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub emerged from humble beginnings to become one of the most legendary figures in Islamic history. Born in Tikrit, Iraq, in 1137, Saladin inherited a strong military background and a deep sense of justice and piety.

Following the Battle of Hattin, Saladin turned his attention to the recapture of Jerusalem, which had been under Crusader control for nearly a century. On September 20, 1187, he laid siege to the holy city.

The siege lasted for two months, with both sides enduring intense fighting and hardship. Saladin's forces gradually gained the upper hand, and on October 2, 1187, Jerusalem surrendered. Saladin's victory was a momentous event, as it restored the revered city to Muslim rule.

A Legacy of Chivalry and Tolerance

Despite his military victories, Saladin was renowned for his chivalry and tolerance towards his adversaries. He allowed safe passage to the Christian inhabitants of Jerusalem and granted them the freedom to practice their faith. His magnanimity earned him the respect and admiration of even his enemies.
