Xiomara Santamaría was born in El Salvador and came to the United States as a young child. She grew up in a working-class family in Los Angeles and witnessed firsthand the challenges that immigrants face in this country. Santamaría is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Southern California. She is a writer, activist, and public speaker. Under The Same Sky is her first book.
